Our faculty, in collaboration with the Informatics Community, organized a talk on “Wikipedia and Digital Literacy”. The event, held at the Prof. Dr. Şehabettin Yiğitbaşı Library Conference Hall, attracted significant interest from academic staff and students.
In his opening remarks, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences Prof. Dr. Gökhan Demirtaş emphasized the importance of closing the knowledge gap and highlighted the role of open-access information sources such as Wikipedia in this process. Guest speaker Başak Tosun, Wikimedia Turkey Representative, noted that Wikipedia is a platform developed through community contributions and encouraged participants to add and edit content.
Tosun further underlined that Wikipedia is an important tool in combating misinformation, promoting equal opportunities in education, and raising awareness. She also addressed the role of artificial intelligence in information production, stressing the necessity for data to be reliable and unbiased.
The talk concluded with a Q&A session, followed by a hands-on workshop held in the computer laboratory.
