Our faculty member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Volkan Göçoğlu from the SBKY department, along with Research Assistants Durukan Ayan and Atahan Demirkol from the research team, analyzed the national climate adaptation plans of countries vulnerable to climate change (underdeveloped, developing, and island countries) within the framework of the United Nations’ “Climate Action” (SDG-13) target.

For the first time, the study comprehensively examined the inter-sectoral relationships of climate adaptation policies in vulnerable countries, revealing that the agriculture sector is the most vulnerable. It also found that capacity building (SDG 13.3) activities play a critical role in climate adaptation strategies.

According to the findings, capacity building in less developed countries, sustainable resource management in developing countries, and governance and resilience strategies in island countries stand out as priority areas.

This study provides guidance for decision-makers in the development of climate change adaptation policies and offers important policy recommendations for planning holistic and cross-sectoral climate strategies.
