As part of our Faculty’s Alumni Meeting series, a conference titled “The Importance of Media in International Trade” was held with the participation of TRT News Correspondent Gurbet Tınas. The event was attended by Prof. Dr. Fikret Yaman, faculty members, and students.
Tınas emphasized that media plays a crucial role in international trade by building trust, shaping perception, and reducing information asymmetry. She noted that trade is not only based on economic data but is also influenced by headlines, digital content, and public perception.
Highlighting the concepts of nation branding and soft power, Tınas explained that media-driven cultural content can significantly increase global demand for a country’s products. She also underlined the importance of managing media-related risks in the digital age.
Sharing her professional experiences, Tınas discussed the challenges of journalism and emphasized the importance of passion and responsibility in the profession. She advised students not to wait for perfection, to prioritize accurate information, and to continuously develop themselves.
The conference concluded with a Q&A session and a certificate of appreciation presented to Tınas.
