A conference titled “Financial Literacy, Household Budgeting, and Rational Financial Decisions in Inflationary Periods” was delivered by our faculty member Asst. Prof. Dr. Adem Böyükaslan on 12 November 2025 for the students of the 32nd Term Police Vocational Training Center (POMEM) at the Afyonkarahisar Police Vocational Training Center Directorate.
During the conference, Dr. Böyükaslan emphasized the importance of income management within the framework of personal finance, particularly for public employees and wage earners during inflationary periods. He explained how nominal income and real income diverge when evaluated in the context of inflation and highlighted the key points that wage earners should consider when making savings, budgeting, and investment decisions to protect their income in times of high inflation.
In addition to personal finance topics, the conference also underlined the importance of effective income and expenditure management within the family institution. Methods and practical examples were shared on how households can maintain healthy communication when making and applying financial decisions.
The conference further addressed how financial awareness, financial knowledge, financial attitudes, and financial behavior shape financial literacy, and how financial literacy relates to financial planning over specific periods through example scenarios and cases based on individual and family psychology. The session concluded with informative insights into household indebtedness and savings rates in Türkiye, an overview of the current state of financial literacy nationally and globally, and examples illustrating how the characteristics of financial assets influence investment decisions and potential returns during inflationary periods, followed by a question-and-answer segment.
