As part of the 50th-anniversary events of our Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, a panel titled “From Vocational School to University: A Look into the History of Our Faculty” was held. The panel featured Prof. Dr. Aykut Herekman, the founding director of the Afyonkarahisar Finance and Accounting Vocational School, who shared valuable memories of the faculty’s establishment process.
The event took place at the Sabri Bektöre Conference Hall and was attended by AKÜ Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Şuayıp Özdemir, our Dean Prof. Dr. Gökhan Demirtaş, Dean of the Faculty of Law Prof. Dr. İhsan Cemil Demir, former AKÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Halim Sözbilir, esteemed academic staff, and students. The panel was moderated by our faculty member, Prof. Dr. Belkıs Özkara.
Prof. Dr. Herekman discussed the challenges faced during the establishment period, his initial arrival in Afyonkarahisar, the foundation of our faculty, and the creation of a robust academic structure that has endured for many years. He expressed his happiness in seeing how the “first nail” he carefully hammered 50 years ago has transformed into a strong faculty.
At the end of the panel, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Şuayıp Özdemir presented a plaque to Prof. Dr. Aykut Herekman, while our Dean Prof. Dr. Gökhan Demirtaş presented flowers to Herekman’s wife, Berra Herekman. Prior to the panel, our Rector, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Karakaş, had a pleasant conversation over lunch with Prof. Dr. Aykut Herekman and our faculty members.
We extend our gratitude to Prof. Dr. Aykut Herekman and all participants who contributed to this meaningful panel, which shed light on the history of our faculty.
